Blurring personal data in recognition results

When privacy protection is enabled, faces in search results, alerts and exported images are blurred across every camera.

The real-world problem

Public agencies, hospitals, schools and businesses carry personal data obligations when using cameras. Face recognition results help operations, but images of passers-by cannot be left open for everyone to browse. Vaidio AI Vision has a privacy protection mode: once enabled, faces in search results, alerts and exported images are blurred on every camera, and only authorized people can unblur.

How it works

01

Enable privacy protection

The mode switches on or off in the server settings. While on, detected people are blurred in search results and alerts on every camera: the event detail page, thumbnails in lists, and images downloaded or exported to files. Toggling restarts the system, so pick a suitable moment.

02

Only authorized people can unblur

Blurring applies to ordinary users. The system administrator, or users granted the special unblur permission, can reveal clear images of specific people from the event detail page; ordinary users only ever see blurred images.

03

Plan capacity and scope

The mode needs double the storage because the system keeps both the original and blurred images, and video playback is unavailable while it is on. Images processed before enabling cannot be blurred retroactively. Projects that need whole heads blurred (not just faces) should contact Turbo Solutions for configuration.

Real-world applications

Keeps patient identities protected when footage is shared between departments for operations or training.

Public agencies

Supports personal data obligations when recognition results circulate widely inside the organization.

Schools

Student faces stay blurred for ordinary staff, with the unblur permission reserved for responsible roles.

Sharing with partners and auditors

Exported evidence images carry blurred faces by default, keeping personal data out of third-party hands.

What you get

Faces in results stay blurred

Once the mode is enabled, faces in search results, alerts and exported images are blurred on every camera.

Clear images sit behind permissions

Ordinary users only see blurred images; the system administrator or users granted the unblur permission reveal originals case by case.

Data handed outside stays protected

Downloaded and exported images keep their blur, so comparisons, audits and third-party handovers do not expose personal data.

Recognition operations keep running

The mode only blurs displayed and exported images; alerts and lookups continue on every camera as before.

How deployment works

  1. Step 1

    Survey how results travel

List who views search results and alerts today, who needs clear images and where exports go, to map the permissions correctly.

  2. Step 2

    Pick the deployment shape

The mode is configured on the Vaidio server inside the business infrastructure; plan double storage for originals plus blurred copies.

  3. Step 3

    Enable and grant permissions

Switch the mode on in server settings and grant the unblur permission to a small set of roles; toggling restarts the system, so pick an off-hours moment.

  4. Step 4

    Tune and operate

Check that search results, alerts and exports come out blurred, and keep a record of which roles hold the unblur permission for periodic review.

Infrastructure requirements: Runs on the Vaidio server inside the business infrastructure with double storage for original plus blurred images; IP cameras from 720p over ONVIF or RTSP, devices stay.

Frequently asked questions

Does the system blur faces automatically?

No. Blurring happens only when privacy protection is enabled in the server settings. While on, faces are blurred on every camera in search results, alerts and exported images.

Can we still play back video while it is on?

No. While the mode is on, video playback and live view are unavailable; only blurred event images remain. Weigh your playback needs before deciding to enable or disable it.

Who can unblur images?

The system administrator and users granted the unblur permission. That person reveals clear images of specific people from the event detail page; ordinary users never see clear images.

Are photos taken before enabling blurred too?

No. Images processed before enabling cannot be blurred retroactively. If personal data protection is mandatory for the project, enable it from the very start.

What should we prepare before enabling?

Double the storage compared with running without it, since both original and blurred images are kept. Toggling restarts the system, so schedule it outside operating hours.
